Although mealybugs are considered key pests from a cosmetic and production viewpoint, their phytosanitary threat is most serious. Molecular techniques to identify the species found on citrus were recently developed. Further research to identify the important natural enemies of all species is planned. Periodically, post-harvest control strategies must be developed for various pests that are identified as barriers for exporting to new markets.

Citrus mealybug, Planococcus citri.
